How I tested it

How I tested the Ooni Koda 2

I used the Koda 2 as the middle-ground gas oven in the range and paid particular attention to usable room and heat distribution.

My notes do not contain a retained pizza count or a controlled set of stone-temperature readings. They do contain a clear warning: temperature uniformity is something I would check during a cook rather than assume.

Cooking space

Fourteen inches hits a useful middle ground

The 14 inches floor gave me more breathing room than a 12-inch oven without moving into the bulk of the Pro and Max models.

That extra room helped with launching and turning even when I was not making the largest pizza the oven could accept. It is the practical reason I see the Koda 2 as the middle-ground choice.

Cooking performance

I would verify the heat before launching

Ooni lists a maximum temperature of 500°C, but maximum output did not answer my main question. I wanted to know how evenly the cooking floor was heating.

My experience made that uniformity worth checking with an infrared thermometer. I would map a few points across the stone before the first launch, then adjust placement and flame rather than trusting one reading.

Everyday use

More usable room without Pro-sized bulk

The oven weighs 16kg and measures 545 × 472 × 333mm. I found that a sensible compromise between easy handling and a less cramped cooking floor.

It can still be moved, but I would give it a stable outdoor surface rather than treating it as something to balance on whatever table is available.

Ownership

Gas keeps the routine simple

The propane gas burner removed ash and fuel tending from the job. That left me to focus on launching, checking the stone and turning the pizza.

The experience was convenient, but not automatic. Heat distribution still deserved attention, especially before a run of pizzas.

Who should buy it?

Buy it for the middle ground

I paid the £399 UK list price. I would consider the Koda 2 if a 12-inch oven felt cramped but the Pro and Max models looked excessive for the space available.

The price is reasonable for the extra room, but I would not assume that a newer burner guarantees uniform stone heat. I would plan to check the floor and learn where the oven runs hottest.

Pizza Preacher verdict

My Ooni Koda 2 verdict

7.1out of 10

The Koda 2 occupies a useful middle ground at £399, but my uncertainty about temperature uniformity stops it feeling like the obvious value choice in the range.

Buy it if you want more room than a 12-inch oven without Pro-sized bulk. Skip it if dependable heat uniformity is your priority.
