Ooni Koda 2 Max Review 2026: Huge but demanding

The Koda 2 Max’s large-format capacity felt genuinely different in use, but its bulk and the quality-control concerns I encountered were substantial trade-offs.

How I tested it

How I tested the Ooni Koda 2 Max

I used the Koda 2 Max to explore the part of the range that smaller ovens cannot imitate: genuinely large-format cooking and a wide dual-zone floor.

My notes support the capacity, bulk and quality-control conclusions in this review. They do not include a retained high-volume pizza count or a full set of timed temperature measurements, so I have not presented either as tested data.

Large-format cooking

The capacity felt genuinely different

The cooking floor is 24 × 21 inches, with room for two 12-inch pizzas. It can also take a single pizza up to 20 inches. In use, that changed the job rather than simply adding a little more elbow room.

This is the Koda I would choose for very large pizzas or high-volume service. For ordinary 12-inch pizzas, much of the footprint and weight would be unused capacity.

Cooking performance

Two burners create useful control and more to manage

The oven uses two independently controlled lateral gas burners. I could treat the broad floor as separate working areas rather than one small chamber dominated by a single flame.

That flexibility suited large-format cooking, but it also asked more of me. I had to think about where each pizza sat and what each side was doing rather than assuming the size made the cook easier.

Controls

The temperature tools suit the scale

The built-in Ooni Connect digital temperature hub works with remote temperature monitoring through the ooni app. On an oven this wide, that information was more useful than it would be on a compact single-zone model.

I still judged the floor and the pizza directly. The display helped me organise the cook; it did not turn two independent burners into an automatic process.

Everyday use

Its bulk is a permanent commitment

At 43kg and 800 × 722 × 428mm, the Koda 2 Max was not something I wanted to carry in and out for each session.

I would only buy it with a dedicated outdoor position already planned. The size is justified by the work it can do, but it is a serious drawback when storage and counter space are limited.

Ownership

Early quality-control concerns tempered the ambition

The Max impressed me with a cooking format no smaller Koda could reproduce. My experience also included quality-control concerns, which made the scale and complexity harder to overlook.

That does not erase what the oven does well, but it changes the buying decision. I would make sure the warranty and replacement process were acceptable before committing to such a large appliance.

Who should buy it?

Buy it only if the scale solves a real problem

I paid the £899 UK list price. I would choose the Koda 2 Max only for very large pizzas, ambitious outdoor cooking or a host who will regularly use the wide floor and independent burners.

I would skip it for routine family pizza nights. The price, bulk, permanent space requirement and quality-control concerns are difficult to justify if a Koda 2 Pro or Koda 16 already provides enough room.

Pizza Preacher verdict

My Ooni Koda 2 Max verdict

7.4out of 10

The Koda 2 Max offers capacity no smaller Koda can imitate, but £899, 43kg of weight and the quality-control concerns I encountered make it a specialist purchase.

Buy it if you will regularly use its huge floor and independent burners. Skip it if one large pizza at a time is enough.
