The short verdict
I found the Koda 16 mature and spacious, but fuel-hungry, with a pronounced hot corner that shaped how I turned pizzas.
How I tested it
I used the Koda 16 long enough to learn its defining traits: useful space around the pizza, noticeably higher gas use and an L-shaped hot zone that dictated my turning pattern.
I do not have retained timed heat-up measurements or a complete pizza count for this oven. The review separates those missing measurements from the behaviour I repeatedly observed.
Cooking space
The Koda 16 accepts pizzas up to 16 inches, but I valued the larger floor even when cooking smaller pizzas. Launching was less cramped and I had room to rotate without crowding the mouth.
That working space made the oven feel more forgiving than the Koda 12. I would choose it for the easier workflow, not just because I wanted to make a full 16-inch pizza.
Cooking performance
Heat comes from an l-shaped gas burner. In practice, the corner nearest the burner dominated the bake, so I learned to turn the pizza with that hot zone in mind.
Ooni lists a maximum of 500°C. My more useful observation was that placement and turning mattered more than the headline temperature. The oven also used more gas than the smaller Koda 12 in my experience.

Everyday use
At 18.2kg and 630 × 580 × 370mm, I could move the Koda 16 when needed, but I did not treat it like a genuinely portable oven.
It suited a permanent or semi-permanent outdoor station. If I had to carry an oven from storage for every cook, I would favour the Koda 12 instead.
Buyers prioritising lighter handling should also read the Ooni Koda 12 review.
Ownership
The gas control kept setup simple and the large floor reduced launch stress. My learning curve was mainly about reading the L-shaped flame and timing each turn.
Once I understood the hot corner, the Koda 16 was spacious and capable. The cost of that maturity was a larger footprint and greater appetite for gas.
Who should buy it?
I paid the £499 UK list price. At that price, I would choose the Koda 16 for regular outdoor cooking when I wanted a simple burner and enough floor space to make launching and turning easier.
I would skip it if low gas use, compact storage or frequent carrying mattered more. Those are the areas where the £299 Koda 12 has the advantage.
The size and portability trade-off is broken down directly in Ooni Koda 12 vs Koda 16.

Pizza Preacher verdict
The Koda 16 gives me the working room I miss in smaller ovens and feels like a mature design. At £499 it needs a regular outdoor home, and its hot corner and gas use remain meaningful compromises.
Buy it if you value room to launch and turn. Skip it if compact storage and low gas use matter more.
The overall score is the mean of the five decision factors above.
